Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Police state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state early analysis indicate the substance was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to resolve the case" and have requested to the community for details.
An important political figure stated the incident rendered him speechless and required to be solved quickly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
